Terror and Wonder: The Gothic Imagination by Dale Townshend

4.0

There are some really excellent essays in here that contribute a lot to my own understanding and were a delight to read. I do question the decision to give equal space in the book to the twentieth-century gothic (100 years) and the twenty-first century gothic (at time of publishing, 14 years.) The twentieth-century chapter was the worst of the bunch and I think breaking it up, as the nineteenth century was broken up, would have made for a much stronger and more cohesive section. I didn't see what the final photo chapter added at all, and I have a few criticisms sprinkled throughout of course, but overall it is certainly worth a read.
