The Library of Borrowed Hearts
by Lucy Gilmore
I cant imagine living sixty years thinking the love of my life and my child died, only to have her pop back up and act like everything is okay? Like she did no wrong? It was 1960, she could easily disappear (obviously, she did!) and then come back 5-10 years later when his siblings were sure to have grown up enough that they didn’t require his financial support. She could at the VERY LEAST have allowed a relationship between father and son. Then to rub in his face that she was never lonely, because she had her son. This book makes it seem like men can’t have a backbone like we strive for women to, because after sixty years of heartbreak, it takes less than 24 hours for him to completely forgive her and love her again after that huge of a betrayal. No, I, for one, will not forgive Catherine. I feel it also continues the narrative that fathers aren’t important in a child’s life, in my opinion. It’s fine if you disagree.
