God, what can I say about this book other than this was Lauren's best book in the series. And yes Cal and Alana were cute but Cal and Cami's relationship was just heartwarming.

This was a book about second chance lover between two childhood friends. It's one that focuses on prioritizing yourself and knowing that in order to truly be loved by someone else means loving yourself first. No matter the consequences. It's putting yourself first, and acknowledging that without that hierarchy, everything else will fade.

Callahan is - well the golden retriever brother and friend who's been hurt one too many times. He's a boy who lost his dream and had to live with that, who's been burned by family members, and now needs to spend time in a place he avoids to get his inheritance. He's broken, but he's also full of life and light. He gives his all to the people he calls family, and will literally do anything for them.

Alana is his childhood best friend who fell in love with him (naturally I mean I even fell in love with him) who is a new mother and is learning how to attempt to achieve her dreams. She loves with her heart on her sleeve, and is suddenly faced with the one person who absolutely broke her. She spends her summer finding out how to love, how to trust, and how to dream.

This book was one filled with moments that made my heart break; watching Cal break was hard once, but seeing it a few times actually had me wanting to shake him and tell him how loved he is. It was a story filled with hope, with need, and most importantly with a desire to get better. Seeing him with Cami made my heart flutter, because it showed that he could achieve whatever he wants to do - but HE has to want it.

It's spicy, damn Cal really knows how to get you going. It's filled with family banter and friendly (and not so friendly) exchanges. Honestly, this might be one of my favourite reads of 2023, and I just know that Cal will be one of my top 5 book boyfriends.
