Blood Beast by Darren Shan

4.0

4.5

Well, that's annoying. Apparently I reviewed the first four, and then the sixth, seventh, and eighth before reviewing the fifth. Reviewer fail = confusion city for me. I'll try to keep it straight but this review will likely be short. Such a shame since it's the highest rating I've given the series.

Blood Beast again focuses on series regular Grubbs, who is back with a recovering Dervish. Interwoven with demonata storyline is teenager trouble via high school and the social circle that inevitably pollutes itself. This gives more insight into the adorable Bill-E, though, and two returning characters I never thought I'd see again.

I'll warn that this one ends on a massive cliffhanger - yikes!

It's hard to put down since Grubb's "changes" are fascinating and I was worried about how it would turn out. Shan doesn't "save" characters from horrible fates so it's never a given that the character will end up okay. Happy-ever-afters just don't fit into these stories.

Finally some mysteries tie into each other and from here on out, the main story starts speeding up since everyone is connected now. It sheds a light on this odd series where so much seem kind of disconnected before.
