As far as I'm concerned this should be required reading for anyone interested in (post)colonialism. Incisive, sharp, and at times uncomfortable - but always brilliant. This essay will absolutely make you think. Stephanie Black's 2001 film Life and Debt, based on the essay, provides an excellent accompaniment that delves a little further into how structural adjustment programmes perpetuate neocolonial and neoliberal economic expansion into Caribbean territories and how Western tourism is linked with Caribbean poverty.
