Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi

5.0

I recently read an essay on The New York Times about some women in Afghanistan who were kept in prison, some of them because they killed their abusive husbands. Some of them felt free having killed their husbands, not guilt, not remorse but Freedom. They felt free in prison.

Firdaus’ story kept reminding me of that essay I read. One thing was clear, it’s 2020 and the subject matter in this book is still a serious one; violence/injustice against women is still common.

Having said that; Woman at Point Zero is a really beautiful book and I couldn’t stop reading Firdaus’ story and how she fought her way out of male domination.
Also, “holding one’s head high” never meant much to me until now.
