March: Book Two
by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin
Part of the reason I think graphic novels are so important as a type of literacy is because of how heavily they rely on visuals. It's one thing to read about the Freedom Riders and what happened in Birmingham and Montgomery in your text books, but it is another thing entirely to see the violence and hatred illustrated, plain as day, there on the page. I would highly, highly recommended these graphic novels as learning tools for high schoolers. Lewis's story is so important.
