One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig

Age of reviewer at time of reading: 36

This solidified it; if a book is popular on booktok I without a doubt will never pick it up. I am so sick of spending money on poorly developed books. There are a lot of factors that make me put this as a "poorly written book" (I know that term is thrown around a lot): Repetitive language; clichés/tropes; unrealistic dialogue; the fan-fic style names that feel like they were picked by a 12 year old... Basically anything that has to do with the execution of the plot and characters rather than the ideas themselves. The concept was there, but there was no substantial world building and little development of the magic system.

For 2024, I will be starting all my reviews with my age so people can gauge my opinions accordingly. This might be a well loved book for Teens, but it's definitely not for me.
