On the Calculation of Volume II by Solvej Balle

4.0

There are things to enjoy here: more of the same meditative, thoughtful assessment of the emptiness of a life denied any point or impact for one thing. But this volume is also just another churn of the previous one; I don't find the search for seasons to be particularly impactful compared to the search for an exit of volume 1, since the search for the seasons seems almost intended to not feel purposeful. In the end this volume feels a bit treading water, and that's fitting for the subject of a day lived over and over, but slightly frustrating to a reader. The very late arrival of a big change signals that the next book should have a more satisfying feel for me, but it's not published yet and probably won't be for a good while, so I will have to wait and see what's the come.
