The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

5.0

“Here was an ugly little girl asking for beauty....A little black girl who wanted to rise up out of the pit of her blackness and see the world with blue eyes. His outrage grew and felt like power. For the first time he honestly wished he could work miracles.”

After reading this book for the 2nd time in my life, this time listening to the audio version narrated by Toni Morrison herself, I have no words that can accurately describe or define or impress upon others what an important piece of literary work "The Bluest Eye" is. Not a happy story, but an important one. I honestly cannot think of a single other author I have ever read, and I've read a ton, who can work words and language as expertly and beautifully as Toni Morrison - may she rest in peace. What a loss! Thankful that we still have her voice forever through her writings.
