i think i finally found a book as heart wrenchingly beautiful as ares and raven’s story. maybe it’s the fact that it was so angsty that it made me cry on multiple occasions. i mean, i was in bed at 2 am and crying.

this second chance romance was done so beautifully. i loved that the author didn’t ignore the difficulties that people face when rebuilding trust. love is not enough sometimes, but it is enough to build something out of it, and that message was so clear throughout the book. reading the past really made me understand the sincerity of both characters, and therefore, the betrayal of their actions hit harder than anything else. because of this, even the entire process, the journey zane and celeste went through to rebuild their foundation was so raw. they had their doubts and insecurities, and i loved that they weren’t cast aside or it hadn’t magically disappeared overnight. it was work, and it was both, emotionally and physically draining. the author did such an amazing work in portraying what the characters were going through, while also maintaining a neutral ground. her writing really made the reader understand why the characters chose the actions they did, and why it affected them so much. one of my favourite parts of this book was that it focused on female friendships too, or even friendships in general. usually, in romances, the entire focus is on the love story between the main characters, but given the story line of this book, and the importance of hurting not just one, but siblings as well, i loved the focus on what it feels like to lose important friendships. another thing i really loved was the love and respect that the windsor brothers had for each other. they trusted one another enough to know that they were making the right decision while also being fiercely protective of each other. they were willing to raise hell for each other if required.

the angst really made all fluff worth it. and, i think the author did an amazing job with this book.
