c4ss4ndr4 's review for:
The Shards
by Bret Easton Ellis
my first BEE, listened to the audiobook (bc big book scary) and let me tell you, i spent every waking second listening to it. this book had it all: unreliable narrator, quaaludes for breakfast, navigating queerness in the 80s, frankentsteinian serial killers, goated music references, and an open-ended conclusion - which led to a 3 hour-long reddit deep dive.
the perfect book if you want to feel terrified, horny, nauseous, and on the brink of mental collapse all at the same time while listening to Blondie’s entire catalogue! haven’t felt this way about a book probably since i discovered Lemony Snicket in the 6th grade. from one quirked up white boy to another, you freaks would love this.
