While this was a nice story, I found it difficult to get over my initial disappointment. Rather than being an academic-style book on faeries with a touch of romance (as had been advertised), the book inexplicably turned into a far fetched adventure with unbelievable and out of place events. So much happened and yet so little made sense as a book?
The whole plot essentially revolved around an unfeeling autistic researcher who finally learns to care about her research subjects. What a cliche! The portrayal of Emily as an autistic person was overly stereotypical, characterising her as cold and aloof. Wendell was a fun character; however, his big declaration of love felt uncomfortable, with his claims of pining for Emily contrasted with his welcoming villagers into his bed nightly...
