To Obama: With Love, Joy, Anger, and Hope by Jeanne Marie Laskas

5.0

I listened to the audiobook. I loved the use of many different narrators to read letters written to President Obama. As the title suggests, the author pulled together an array of letters covering the many concerns of Obama’s constituents (supporters and opponents alike). I was touched deeply by the hardships, anger, fear, etc. presented in the letters. The author's added insight into the administration behind the scenes - at least from her perspective - was a pleasant bonus.

A great reminder as to the humanity of President Obama. His reading ten letters a day kept him grounded and familiar with life for his constituents.

The greatest “feel” to me was that Obama started and ended with hope. Many Americans believe that a president can change Americans problems (that have taken decades to create) in just four or eight years. Or, the grand illusion that the President has control of everything. Looking past that misunderstanding, I have hope that America is better than it’s great divide of modern times.
