This was a descent historical fiction read that covered the years of the civil war. I didn’t like how the author changed the spelling of dialog to fit an atrocious uneducated accent, and that was my main peeve. The family dynamic was the best since it highlighted the hard issue of families fighting on opposite sides of the war. Some of the war details felt like info dumps and flew over my kids’ heads. Overall we all enjoyed the story okay, but it wasn’t a favorite.
