Wooing the Witch Queen
by Stephanie Burgis
This was very cute :)
I was hesitant to pick this up due to the title and tagline but don’t let them fool you, this book has a nice balance of humor and plot/romance going on.
I’ve been reading a lot of heavy, emotional reads + a lot of dark romances so I really needed a break before I dived back in and this was the perfect pallet cleanser for that. Now I can’t wait for the next book and I wouldn’t have ever known if I hadn’t randomly decided to read ^^
I really enjoyed the romance. Felix and Saskia were so supportive of each other, even after Felix’s identity was revealed. I really liked how the ‘breakup’ was handled (don’t worry—no third act break up here. There’s a bit of tension given Felix is literally the man Saskia wants to kill but they get over it lol).
And like I said, there was a nice balance of romance and plot—an intriguing plot at that. There’s a large war looming over everyone with this empire and enough intrigue set up for book 2. I think if you’d want to dive into fantasy or dive back in again, this would be a good option as there’s some world building involved but it doesn’t feel too overwhelming.
