I enjoyed this one! Was a good read and way better than the first book in this series. Honestly it probably would be better if this would all be one book. As book 1 was basically just set-up and 2/3 did not have plot at all. And as these books don't really have very high word counts for a Fantasy novel, it is almost criminal that this got published as a Duology.
This is also a pretty dark and gritty story and this very well reflected within V.E. Schwabs gripping writing style. She also really made us care for the characters, especially in this book and because of we got a pretty emotional ending.
Plotwise it was better than the first book but still nowhere near exceptional and it also felt somewhat generic and predictable. But a lot here gets carried by how invested you get in the main characters and also just by the cool very dark vibes that this postapocalyptic monster filled world presents.
