Forget Me Not by Julie Soto

4.5

Ama is an unconventional wedding planner - she loves weddings, but she doesn’t exactly believe in marriage after witnessing her mother’s sixteen (and counting) divorces. Four years into her business, she books the job of a lifetime, forcing her to work with a former collaborator. Elliot is florist extraordinaire, architectural whiz, and the only man Ama’s ever loved (and it’s mutual).

In alternating present and past chapters (mostly present), Soto walks us through the prep work of this wedding, the tensions Ama is navigating to develop her professional brand, the Ama/Elliot origin story, and the path to reconciliation.

Second chance romances always make me squirm a little, and Elliot starts this book off quite cold while we wait to see what exactly happened to break them up in the first place. When it comes to the surface, his reaction is understandable and their ability to semi-fake a professional relationship is impressive. The “meant to be”’of it all is heavy handed, but done well - they check all of my favorite sentimental boxes and they both deliver some epic declarations.

I was able to snag Soto’s next book when it was read now on NetGalley so I’ll be diving into that next.
