This book CONSUMED me in the best way. I know it has its critiques, but I simply loved it! I fell for the characters, the world, the relationships, and of course, the dragons. Although the main characters are cishet, I appreciate how gender-diverse characters are included in the story and it’s not a huge deal.

This book feels pretty complete on its own, which I appreciate, while also leaving things to be explored and explained in the rest of the series. This romance storyline?!?! So Divergent-core, and considering Divergent had me in an absolute chokehold in 7th grade, I’m not surprised my little heart is bursting at this book. :’)

It is worth noting that the author uses Scottish Gaelic words for a lot of the names in this book, and there are many errors in the spelling and grammar. A TikTok creator called @ceartguleabhar has fantastic videos on this, teaching people how to pronounce the words correctly and where the mistakes are (and why it’s important to do so), as a Scottish Gaelic speaker herself.
