I love a good witchy read. This delivers on the witchy, but it also delivers a pretty predictable read. Unfortunately, if you read enough YA fantasy you can pretty much figure out where the insta-love is going to come in and with whom, the conflict, the reveal of how the ultimate conflict needs to be resolved, and the major twists at the end of who will be the betrayer/real foe.
The writing is good. The pacing is good, and it is interesting enough that I plan on continuing on, at least into the next book. For YA fantasy readers that are new to the genre and love a good witchy read, I would recommend it. It is a good, slightly better than average YA read.
But if you are old hat to fantasy, and in particular to YA fantasy, this one may be a take or leave it.
