Bitter Orange by Claire Fuller

4.0

This is the gothic slow burn perfected! Romance, betrayal, intrigue, atmosphere, Bitter Orange has it all, and it's set in a crumbling English manor! Over one hot summer in the late 1960's the tensions between the temporary occupants of the house reach a boiling point from which there is no going back. I couldn't turn the last 30 pages fast enough to find out what happens!

I really mean it about the slow burn though. If you aren't a fan of books with a languid pace, this one probably isn't for you. I agree with the reviews that say those that enjoyed Rebecca would like Biter Orange too, but it doesn't even come close to the creepiness factor found in Du Maurier's writing. I think fans of The Thirteenth Tale might enjoy this as well.
