My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

2.0

I didn’t like this book. I think if you approach this from an analytical character study perspective, there’s a lot to get out of it. But, to be frank, almost everything about this book rubbed me the wrong way. The way addiction is dealt with, how flippantly eating disorders are discussed, the antisemitic, racist and ableist language? This book was casually awful in all of the above ways. I hated the main character and her attitudes towards literally everything. And I think what pissed me off the most is that I expected to adore this book. That’s not even mentioning how bored I was reading this. I can’t even tell you how many yellow tabs I used to tab shit I hated.
