Saeris Fane has learnt how to survive in the desert-like land she lives in with her brother. It's no easy life, but when she's caught stealing a gauntlet from one of the queen's guards it seems like her life is forfeit.

"Saeris Fane was twenty-four years of age when she died. Honestly, she should have died a lot sooner, but the girl never did know when to give up."

But instead of dying she inadvertently opens a gateway to another realm - a snow-covered Fae land. There she meets Kingfisher, a Fae Warrior who wants to use her to protect his people. He's also Saeris' only way home.

This romantasy has everything you need for an entertaining and pleasurable read:

• enemies-to-lovers
• fated mates
• morally grey MMC
• kick-ass FMC
• spicy romance

Also memorable side characters, evil vampires and some unexpected twists, along with quite a lot of action, fun banter  and an adorable fox!

So, why not five stars? We only get Saeris' POV, so what Kingfisher's thinking is hard to know. It makes their chemistry a little less tangible for me as a reader. Not a huge deal, but enough for me to knock some off of my grade. I also think the ending is a bit abrupt. Despite it being over 600 pages long I would have liked to have a couple of pages more. The positive is that Hart doesn't leave us with a terrible cliffhanger; it feels alright to wait for the sequal!
