The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

5.0

I wasn’t sold after the first few chapters. It felt really obvious and predictable and I thought maybe after the events of 2020, this book would no longer hold the impact of when it was written. But I was wrong.

I think this book could help some people see a different perspective, if they are open to it. And even if you understand the general perspective of most of the characters, there were still a few “I never thought of it that way” moments.

Any truths aside, it’s also a good story. Starr is a likable character and watching her character develop was satisfying. Following the twists the family goes through was fascinating.

Yes, some characters and situations were obviously included to illustrate a point, and I’m fine with that.

I’m so glad my daughter convinced me to finally move this of the to-read list.
