I of course started the Tortall saga at a different point in time, so to use this as an introduction point is an interesting point but I can see how the world could get built out from here. It took me some time to get into it, I wasn't very captivated by the way the telling was at first, but as things started to kick off I could appreciate the way of telling for what it is. It also helped that as more happened you got the perspective of the location much better. Overall, decent read and yes, I did shed a couple of tears.
