Play the Game by S.J. Sylvis
4.0

I killed this book in a single sitting and I’m not the least bit ashamed. Idk what’s been up with me and hockey romances, lately, but I’m not mad at it and Sylvis is a master at them. Weak side is still my favorite hockey romance, to this day, so I need I wouldn’t be disappointed with SJ’s newest installment.

Im so glad Emory got his own book and at first I was a little grumpy at him, but then I realized that he has some defense mechanisms to work on. I absolutely loved the snark and banter between the MCs and this grumpy goalie fell HARD, without even noticing it. I wish we had gotten to see a little more of the brother, but I’m obsessed with backstory, so *shrug*.

Tropes:
Hockey Romance
Possessive MMC
He falls first
Marriage of convenience
Enemies to lovers
One bed
“My Wife”
Independent FMC (to her own detriment sometimes)
Forced proximity

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️Random notes from my read: CAN BE CONSIDERED SPOILERY⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

* Emory over here trying to act like he’s not already obsessed
* $2500 a month doesn’t really seem like much to live on, since she’s not working anymore and she’s super overdue on lawyer fees
* Emory….not the apt pet…no
* Omg she named it shutter
* Haha, I’m calling it now, Scottie and Tay are going to be bff and dedicate their lives to driving Emory insane
* Holy bathroom scene, Batman
* What happened to the photography thing? It’s been mentioned like twice
* I love Emory’s exasperation that she went to a thrift store
*nvm photography is back, baby!
* Was the bully thing dropped or is that for a future book?

So very many thanks to Valentine PR and S.J. Sylvis for providing me an eARC in exchange for my honest review. I loved it!
