The antagonist was well hidden and interesting. I would have enjoyed more from their POV to get a bit more understanding of their why. But what we did get from their POV was interesting and told a consistent story.

I was nervous at first reading about a female main character written by a man. Those are notoriously terrible. It got off to a rocky start, with a lot of "not like other girls" vibes. But I did really enjoy her character by the end of it. Her history was a very interesting and unique story.

The pacing was really uneven. The ending was action packed, but it didn't always feel like it was moving forward. There were frequent slow downs in momentum that made it difficult to keep the sense of foreboding strong.

Overall, this was enjoyable, but I'm uncertain if I'll continue the series.
