I find Sager's problem is that his books often start out well and then kind of fade. The premise seems great and if it went in the direction it seems like it's going to, it would be a really good book. Unfortunately, Sager often decides to take the book in a different direction altogether resulting in something that is not nearly as good as the build up. The reveal was... something I guess, but parts of the set up were so implausible (like the idea that everyone who was a child at the time of Billy's disappearance somehow still lives on the same street??), and the reveal was borderline silly. That being said I'll probably still read whatever Sager puts out, so clearly I'm not learning anything from this experience.
