Horror 101: The Way Forward by Joe Mynhardt, Emma Audsley

3.0

I finished this a long time ago and what I remember about it is that it was only a middling collection of essays. Crystal Lakes Publishing and such small and mid-size horror presses put out a ton of these collections geared toward spec fiction writers--not all of them can be great.

This one is full of "writing business advice" essays, which I always read with a great deal of speculation when coming from successful writers anyway. They do not accurately remember the trenches, I promise. And besides, the trenches five years in their wakes do not contain the same sharks as today's trenches. These essays are really only useful as sorts of, "rules of thumb." Only craft essays are useful. Only craft essays age well.
