All the Cuts and Scars We Hide by Garry Michael

3.5 stars - It was alright

This is my first book from this author and I was actually intrigued by the second book, but wanted to read the first book just to get a feel of the writing and story. I generally don't sway towards these types of stories since I like it to be more lighthearted, but I certainly wasn't against it and I wanted to give the series a go.

Wyatt suffers from PTSD from his past and tried to live with it everyday, facing past demons. Kai has run away from his own past, hoping to find a place that would being him happiness. One day the pair stubble upon each other and form an instant connection that grows with them getting to know and learn about each other.

Generally, this book was a good size, it can be read in a couple of hours which I love. The story is also very fast paced, which again, i love. In the case of this book, the pacing was good, but the story felt rushed. There were a lot of gaps in between events, like for example, there was a mention of them texting for weeks and getting to know each other, but we never get to see that. And because of that, I felt very out of tune with the characters, i didn't feel thier chemistry the way i thought I should and the way I wanted to.

I think the author did a great job with the subjects of guilt and PTSD throughout the story and a greater part of this book was focused on that rather than the romance. The relationship between the characters helped each character to fight thier demons and to acknowledge their own pasts, and was made to be the most important part of the book.

I'm definitely continuing the series, the next book is based at the Winter Olympics, and at the time of this review, the Winter Olympics are ongoing so the timing is perfect! Plus I kind of got used to the writing style if the author and enjoyed this book enough to continue!
