The Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee

5.0

To be frank, this work is probably one of the best pieces of fiction I've ever read. We follow Kyoshi's journey to Avatarhood. From her entirely humble beginnings, to grappling with her newfound identity, to being faced with strife time and time again with nothing but her resilience, selflessness, and sense of duty to get her by. Even in a situation where one would consider her cold and heartless, we see her inner turmoil, sense of justice, and conviction. She continues to bear the heavy burden of Avatarhood even through the seemingly insurmountable trials and thankless attitudes of those of the four nations. Though her journey is not yet over, she has easily established herself as one of the strongest Avatars in my eyes.

-- There is also something to be said about the innocence of her developing romance. You don't typically see such a wholesome representation of wlw in modern media.
