The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas
3.0
3.5 stars. This was a cute book. The friends to lovers element is my personal preference, with the added spice of fake dating. The tension between these two is THICK and boy howdy this is a slow burn for a short book.
What kept this book just shy of 4 stars was actually the ending. Lucas being afraid that he couldn’t give enough to Rosie was absolutely believable, but then he said he didn’t doubt she wanted him, just that she wouldn’t want him forever. And then he realized she loved him by reading the book. So it felt like either miscommunication (my least favorite trope ever) or it is super inconsistent with everything Rosie has ever said and done. I think I would have preferred him just leave it with “I was scared and confused and I went to therapy and understand I shouldn’t have left you in the airport without a reason.” The stuff with Olly also felt a little clunky and sort of shoehorned purely to drive the romance plot, but that’s not the end of the world to me.
BUT! Still a wonderfully sweet and gentle epilogue where all is well. Will definitely continue to pick up books by Elena Armas.
