The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston

4.0

4 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Because the things that mattered most never really left. The love stays. The love always stays, and so do we.

With just a little touch of magic, Ashley Poston ensnared me with a poignant and exhilarating story of grief and finding love in unexpected places (and times).

This book hit very close to home to me as someone who has experienced grief in my life more times than I wished. There is truly no way to put into words the way grief manages to carve such a dark void in one's life after the loss of a loved one. As life goes on, you scramble to catch and preserve any precious fragments of the person who no longer exists as you know the memories become more vivid with time. The book cleverly explores the theme of grief and gives it a unique aspect within the story.

I once read that grief is an expression of love, and I agree. Love is what always stays.

While grief may paint this book in a shade of blue, but you can think of the romance in an artist's hand painting streaks of bright yellow over the blue to allow the light to come in, or to explain it in a less cheesy way, the romance was done beautifully and balanced the haunting presence of grief.

This book is quite an experience so I won't go into details about the romance, but it's magical in its own way.

Although I would say that I needed more of it? I adored the romance too much to the point I was left asking for more.

It's my first Ashley Poston book and it certainly won't be my last.

Content warnings: the theme of grief is heavily featured in the book and there is mention of death of loved ones and su*cide.
