A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

5.0

I’m reading this book over a year after I read the first one, and I have no idea why! As always VE Schwab has done an amazing jobs in crafting compelling characters, world-building, spell-binding writing, and designing an intriguing and complex magic system.

I’m so invested in each of these characters; this is one of the few books with switching POVs where I’m never disappointed when the POV changes, because I love all the characters! The relationships between the characters are just as good: the romantic relationships are amazing (I for one have been thrown aboard the Alucard x Rhy ship) as well as the friendships (Rhy and Kell are even more sweet in this than the first one, and the new friendship between Lila and Alucard is amazing)!

I absolutely love the idea behind this series, it’s one of the most intriguing and original concepts I’ve read, and the plot is equally great. I LOVE competitions in books, and this was one of the best! I also loved the bits we aboard the Night Spire. And getting to see from Holland and Ojka’s POV... there literally wasn’t a bit of this book I didn’t love. And the ending! No spoilers, but oh my god I am immediately picking up the next book to see what’s going to happen.

Seriously, this book is so good. Just read the thing.
