The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

She’s a ghost writer who can see ghosts and Ben the tall, hot, dark haired editor is a stiff. I feel like they lacked chemistry. She wanted to climb him like the spider monkey she is upon their first meeting and then leaves in a flurry because he won’t give her and extension. Their next interaction happens after she sees her ex at an open mic reading the book he based on her life so she happens upon Ben in the alley and kisses him but WHAM her dad is dead.

Most of the book focuses on death and how she copes and grieves with her choices she’s made up until this point.

Benji joins her on completing tasks for her father’s funeral because surprise he’s been ghosted… he’s a ghost who has unfinished business.

I can’t for the life of me enjoy insta live and this was essentially that since their paths were parallel but never “met” until the cactus debacle. MOST OF THE BOOK SPANS A WEEK then time jumps at the end. There was a ton of bookish references… as in relevant booktok/bookstagram titles.

No ghost smut, just mild undressing shocking considering the amount of times she mentioned her early smutty fanfic years and alluded to smut scenes in her past writing.

I think the ending redeemed the book. It’s predictable, but I mean that in a good way since romance is dead ;]
