I don’t normally enjoy sci-fi, but oh my goodness was this book a good time! It was warm and fuzzy and light, but still made space for a little tension and some really emotional moments.
The sentence-level writing is average, but the characters and the worlds and species and politics are all so phenomenal that you barely notice the writing itself. And the way this lovable crew of characters explores the deeper themes of humanity, gender, and relationships is genuinely engaging.
This is character-driven writing done well.
