Remina by Junji Ito

5.0

This is a perfect Lovecraftian tale of cosmic horror.
Junji Ito as you may or not know is my favourite manga artist and the only one that I buy and collect all of his works. I don't own any other manga books with a few exception (like first issue of berserk).

We've got a scientist that discovers a strange planet that wanders throughout space in odd shapes. He then baptizes the planet as Remina because of the connections (age) of her own daughter. The daughter becomes famous worldwide with many people getting interest on her. But something changes and now the planet is moving towards earth destroying everything in it's path (pluto, uranus, neptune, jupiter and mars...)
While this news are being directed to earth humanity is going crazy, after all the impending doom awaits them in a couple of days/weeks and a new cult appears that thinks that everything is related to Remina and she should be killed to appease this strange planet.

I won't go into much details but as you probably saw even on the cover, the planet is not a planet as you know it but a elder strange being... this is Lovecraftian cosmic horror at it's best. Humanity is lost - there is no hope so what should they do?

It's violence, it's despair , it's rich vs poor; it's humanity at its worst.
Reading some people comments, some don't enjoy the all humanity killing a girl to appease - I believe they don't understand how humans work in face of utter despair. Imagine looking up to the sky, seeing something so big that nothing else can be seen and it's a giant eye or big mouth... first you would be insane almost automatically , so the lenghts you would go to save yourself would be without limits...

description

Now, if you love sci-fi probably this is not for your because there is some science laws don't behave as you expected, like the force of planet so near earth , something would happen like earthquakes and other stuff (which happen); the licking of earth making it spinning even faster - well most things would just be flown off the atmosphere... byebye but this fiction and there are some leeway

It's awesome if you enjoy lovecraft and cosmic horror , well horror in general....
