Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

This book started a little slowly for me and I ended up making a list of characters from spark notes in order to keep up, but both of these things often occur when I read science fiction. I stayed with it because I was interested in experiencing something that so many people have enjoyed, and I’m glad I did. It was suspenseful, thought-provoking, and entertaining. It was also interesting to see the casual racism inherent in the writing: the Costa Rican characters have first names only, no personality or skills, and appear/disappear as it suits the plot. I would LOVE to read a book that reimagines the story from the point of view of the Costa Rican employees, particularly during the period when the power was out and the dinosaurs were roaming free.
