Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

5.0

This was a really fun way to spend my New Year's weekend. I was painting a bedroom for part of this weekend and so I listened to part of the book on audio--I loved the narrator for Marcellus. The main narrator was good too. I finished the rest as an ebook. Great characters. Lovely details. A story grounded in a specific place (I love it when books feeeeeeeel like a place). I've only been to the Pacific Northwest once (Spring Break 2023, actually), but this book made me want to go back, especially in summer. A yummy, comfort read that captures ideas that are worth musing on--like kindness, persistence, and whimsy. I hope Shelby Van Pelt isn't daunted by all of our very high hopes for her second novel.
