From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home by Tembi Locke

5.0

This was one of my favorite memoirs I’ve read that’s written by an author I knew nothing about prior to reading their book. Despite having no connection or knowledge of the author beforehand though - it’s so well done that upon finishing, I feel like I know her on an intimate level, her memoir is so raw, but it’s also written beautifully. I actually cried twice even. Bonus points for the parts of it set in Florence, I loved reading about her time there and recognizing so many of the places she referred to based on my own time there and the times I’ve returned, too. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, but it’s also real snd lovely and the details in her descriptions make you want to hop on a plane and also have a home cooked meal. If you like memoirs - I’d highly recommend.
