Boys in the Valley by Philip Fracassi

5.0

I have had only a few complete 5 star, will take 0 criticism on, flawless reads of 2023. Boys in the Valley is one of them.

This ruthless & emotional story follows a few characters. Mainly focusing on 16 year old Peter. After the horrific death of his parents, Peter occupies a Catholic Orphanage with about 20 other boys. Being one of the eldest, Peter tends to the younger orphans, protecting them from the harsh reality of life under firm and disciplined priests. All hell breaks loose after a mysterious man is brought to the church late one night. This is a hauntingly beautiful story of boyhood, love, & the darkness that lurks in Catholicism.

I really don’t have much else to say than this is a must read for horror lovers everywhere. I could not love this book more. Fracassi is a master at his art & does a stupendous job of creating intricate, dynamic relationships as well as setting the mood of a scene with vivid imagery. I will be thinking about this story for a long, long time.

5/5!
