Read as a part of a "reading challenge" (historical adventure). I read the original, unabridged version. I was unprepared for the amount of violence in this story. Having lived in Alaska, I enjoyed some of the tales about the sled dogs and the history involved with the gold rush. It was difficult to read about all the suffering and abuse, though.
