Spring's Awakening by Frank Wedekind

3.0

My problem with this play is that it has too many details hidden in allusion and references. Maybe an audience of a hundred years ago would have gotten more of the Goethe references, but I can’t watch this show with endnotes.
Also, so many dashes...the sex acts and subtext need to either be there or not.

This play is revolutionary and groundbreaking. Even though the language is dense, the concept and events are really interesting. I can’t wait to see the musical based on this play.
