There is a lot of gore in this book but it isn't scary. Graphic gore does not automatically equal scary. It starts off pretty strong but fades. You know the secrets before the halfway point and so it starts to drag out. Overall, the story is interesting but occasionally you want it to get to the point because you've already figured out the two biggest "twists". Multiple times I literally said "shut UP Dixie" aloud. So much could have been avoided if she had stopped talking and let others get a word in or listened to what was coming out of their mouths. On top of that, she treats her partner like shit repeatedly and it's just supposed to be okay after. I get that men ain't shit, but all this dude is out here doing is keeping her secrets, being lied to, not wanting to live in a murder house, and trying to talk actual sense into crazy. (he's not given enough page time/personality to be deemed a good/bad character. He...exists) Dixie needs to sit down.

Now that I've finished, I see in the reviews there is a book written before it with a similar premise, Dark Places, that I may check out.
