On rereading this series I found myself consistently a little disappointed, it's just not quite as engaging as I once found it. I find this book particularly lacking in the treatment of Mary, who I feel is left feeling two dimensional next to the other characters. In all the books of the series there are some shockingly moving and beautiful passages, and this book provides a satisfying ending to Patrick's story, it is definitely still a beautiful series well worth reading
