This was a fast and fun graphic novel clearly written for members of tech-obsessed Generation Z. For example, it starts with the heroine in mortal peril from zombie-like creatures, and yet she has time to muse about how her predicament would make a great selfie that would help her 'own the internet'. Kids these days! The story itself isn't bad: an isolated schoolgirl finds new strength and confidence through the virtual world that her computer whiz father has created for her. There's even a hint of Buddhist philosophy in there about how the energy you send into the world transforms it: positive energy creates positive outcomes; negative energy is destructive. Things were neatly wrapped up at the end, but I see there's a second volume available at the library, which I've put on hold. Books being my escapism, I'm going to immerse myself in their restorative and transformative world as much as I can while I'm travelling in an English-speaking country!
