I don't know if the problem was with the author, the translator, or (my personal opinion) that Nordic noir doesn't really travel very well. What works on the streets of Helsinki, Stockholm, etc loses something when moved to London. It lacks the mood of most in the genre. The dark, the cold, the... bleakness.
