I was so excited for Slay Ride after loving Sinners Retreat, and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t quite hit the same for me.
Cat was, as always, amazing—I loved her in book one, and she continued to be such a fun and dynamic character here (from cat mum to cat mum, how could I not love her). Bennett had his moments, but sometimes he was just a bit too much for me. And Kendra, who I adored in Sinners Retreat, felt a little overbearing this time around. I get that she cares about Cat, but the constant babysitting got a bit frustrating.
The secret relationship aspect also stretched on longer than I expected, which made it feel a little unrealistic at times.
That said, the action, banter, and chemistry were still really enjoyable! Despite a few frustrations, this was still such a fun read, and I’m definitely picking up book three—I can’t wait to see what happens next, and I hope we can maybe read of Maverick 👀
