Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes
4.0

Ok yes, that was much better than the first one, but I still had a few issues with it, the main one being the instalove. The instalove was RAMPANT in this book, the only relationship that is actually developing well is the relationship between Magnus and Cleo. But Alexius and Lucia, Lysandra and Jonas (and also possibly Jonas and Phaedra) were completely underdeveloped. That being said, everything else I enjoyed quite a lot.

The World-Building: The world building still needs a little work, but we definitely got more insight into the kingdoms, the history, the magic and Morgan Rhodes is weaving together mythology and magic together really well.

The Characters: I'm still not 100% in love with Magnus, but he's definitely growing on me. He did a lot of very sweet things in this book and I really like the relationship developing between him and Cleo. Cleo continues to be my favourite character, although the fact that every boy she meets (Theon, Nic, Jonas, Magnus) kind of falls in love with her is just a little bit ridiculous. I liked Lucia more in this book, even though her relationship with Alexius kind of irritated me. I like that we're seeing a darker side to her and am looking forward to continuing her story. Jonas still kind of bores me, sadly. I really liked what happened with Nic at the end, I definitely did NOT see that coming, and it adds an interesting dimension to the story, I hope Morgan Rhodes expands on it. Lysandra was introduced and I like her a lot.

The Plot: The plot was good, there were a lot of twists, a lot of turns, a lot of death and it did keep me engrossed the whole time and there wasn't ever a point where I was bored.

I'm definitely going to go on to read Gathering Darkness as soon as possible, I think this is a series that will just keep getting better and better.
