Madness, Rack, and Honey: Collected Lectures
by Mary Ruefle
mary ruefle is such a bizarre and lovely genius. this book wanders more than i expected—though it is always done intentionally—admits freely how little we know, how little we can know, how little knowledge serves us. madness rack and honey—the madness through which every small living creature in our head runs into each other, tumbling down the stairwell, giving birth. the rack of it, which is the terrible pain that must occur when the top of ones head is cut off, though no one likes to discuss such things; and, of course, the honey, the complicated sweetness of creation, the sweetness of fruit a day away from rot.
